This website features the early history of the town, from the exploration of the area in the early 1800's and the discovery of gold in 1862, to the official renaming of the town to Parkes in 1873.
The town of Parkes is situated close to the geographical centre of New South Wales. Today it is a thriving community which boasts some of the richest and most productive agricultural and grazing land in the State.
